Parent Education provides a parent-centered, evidence-informed, nationally consistent and equitable service to all pregnant women and their partners/support persons. The purpose is to prepare you for birth and the
transition to parenthood.
The Antenatal Class Programme consists of

Early Pregnancy
Are you 20 weeks pregnant or less?
Why not come to our early pregnancy class where you can get advice on all aspects of pregnancy. There will be a Midwife, Dietitian and Physiotherapist present at the session and they are available to answer your questions.
Refresher Classes
This class is for mothers who have had babies already
Topics include signs and stages of labour, breathing exercises and relaxation; options of pain relief and breastfeeding are discussed. There is also a tour of the labour ward.
Preparation Classes
for Labour and Parenthood
It is best to attend this programme of three antenatal classes when you are 7 months pregnant. Classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at different times in the Maternity Outpatients Department.
Post Natal Education
Available in hospital following the birth of your baby
These sessions are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am on St. Angela’s Ward and is followed by an optional (4-6 week postnatal) reunion class. Postnatal Physiotherapy is also available every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:15am in St. Angela’s Ward.
